About Telenor

In December 1998, VimpelCom formed a strategic partnership with Telenor, Norway’s leading telecommunications company, which owned 26.6% shares of VimpelCom’s voting capital stock as of January 1, 2006. Telenor’s business interests cover mobile, fixed and satellite communications as well as broadcasting. In its international business, particularly outside of the Nordic area, Telenor concentrates on mobile communications. Telenor brought to the partnership, particularly at the early stages of cooperation, valuable experience in the development and implementation of wireless voice and data services and knowledge of sophisticated marketing techniques. Telenor has helped VimpelCom by seconding some of its managers, including Jo Lunder who served at VimpelCom first as Chief Operating Officer (1999-2001) and subsequently as Chief Executive Officer (2001-2003).
